AMIRA Group Announces New Range of Organic Products

Amira Pure Foods Private Limited, a part of the NYSE-listed Amira Nature Foods Ltd. (NYSE:ANFI), announced the launch of its new range of premium organic products. The company has tied up with 7500 farmer families to cultivate 12,000 hectares for multiple organic crops.

Amira Group, which has created a name for itself in the premium Basmati segment in India and abroad, has decided to further increase its product portfolio with organic products such as organic rice, lentils & beans, flour, spices, oil & ghee to the Indian consumers. These products will be made available across all retail platforms in India.

While speaking about the announcement, Mr. Karan A Chanana, Chairman and CEO, Amira Nature Foods Ltd said, “With this launch we have further expanded our range of offerings in India. Organic products category has seen a tremendous growth in the last couple of years and Indian consumers are becoming more conscious about their health as well as the environment. We understand this growing preference of consumers for safer and healthier foods and aim to fulfill their requirements by providing them with the best quality and authentic organic products.”

Organic Food has no pesticides or harmful chemicals. These products have longer shelf life and tastes better than non-organic food. These NON-GM crops are completely traceable from folk to farm. Organic Food offers enormous health benefits like boosting immunity, improving health of heart, reducing risk of cancer, supporting digestive system etc. As per an article published in British Journal of Nutrition, “organic crops, on average, have higher concentrations of antioxidants, lower concentrations of Cd and a lower incidence of pesticide residues than the non-organic comparators across regions and production seasons.” The Amira range of organic products was launched at the BIOFACH event, the largest organic food show in India, held at Kochi in the presence of Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh and Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Oommen Chandy.

The company is providing farmers with the technical guidance, marketing linkage for various organic crops along with the access to the best organic and sustainable methods of farming, best quality seeds and bio-inputs. Amira organic farming projects are located in the Terai regions of India near the Ganga and Yamuna riverbeds.

The Amira Group, which is also one of the largest exporters of Basmati rice from India, has been aggressively strengthening its product portfolio in India. The company had recently tied up with Snapdeal.com to become the first basmati brand to be available online at a pan-India level. “Our goal is to become a global specialty food company and India is a very important market for us to help us achieve that vision. We are now looking at introducing more specialty and gourmet products in this market” added Mr. Chanana.
